Stress Management - Improve Your LifeExcept for the much talked about "fight or flight benefits" of stress, very little else in the way of good can be said about it. All else you are likely to hear concerning stress will more or less be bad news. While some of the effects of stress are long lasting and others difficult to rectify, stress management techniques do provide effective remedies. The consensus therefore, is that stress on the whole is bad for you - but help is available. In determining the particular, or combination of, stress management techniques that may be suitable for you, it is a good idea to first identify the sources of your stress. These can be many and may include marital problems, death or injury of a family member, work-related concerns, and run-ins with the law - to name a few. Some people choose to deal with stress in ways that prove ineffective, and in some cases may even exacerbate the problem. Excessive smoking and drinking are ways some choose to deal with the problem of stress. Even without stress factored in these are known to be health hazards, so when combined with stress the result is unlikely to be good. Also faced with stress, individuals may find themselves overeating, oversleeping, or relying on the use of drugs and pills to cope. There are those too, who will procrastinate and find everything else to do except face the source of the stress head on. And there is still another set that will take their stress out on those around them, or withdraw from friends and family. These obviously are not appropriate stress management techniques, and will only serve to make one's life even more stressful. With stress management training applied, stress can be reduced, or in some instances eliminated. What is good about the stress management techniques involved is that they are quite simple and easy to do, and can apply to any stressful situation in your life. How difficult is it to go for a walk or bike ride? Sitting and talking with a friend or family member, listening to some soothing music, or doing some gardening are all things considered valuable stress management tips. Deep breathing, getting a massage and playing a physical game you enjoy, such as football or volleyball will help with your stress too. When you find that you need more help, we have an excellent program that can show you how to reduce the stress in your life in just one hour! What all of this means then, is that if we can avoid, eliminate, reduce, or at the very least minimize stress, then the quality of our lives will be improved. With this in mind there will always be a place in our lives for stress management. |
